Banyen Drumming Centre
The Banyen Drumming Centre was constructed on Whitby Island, WA as a home and centre for meditation and drumming. The Centre was founded by Jane Hooper and Kolin Lymworth of Banyen Books in Vancouver, BC. Geomancy was used to locate the exact position of the building in the centre of the site with vegetable gardens to the high North side and natural untouched forest area to the lower South. The octagon shape housed a large open multipurpose space with bay windows for storage, seating and views in all directions. The lower level contained a “cottage” where the owners lived while teaching meditation and drumming and tending their expansive organic garden. The BDC was constructed with authentic materials from local island providers and crafts people involved in the “green building “ movement.
