CIRS
The CIRS Solar Aquatics System technology was designed and installed to process sewage to provide reclaimed water to flush toilets and to irrigate the landscape around the building. The process was installed in a glass solarium on the front side of the building to capture south and west sunlight. The project was designed to harvest water from the CIRS building and from Campus via an underground pump chamber. A series of aerated tanks filled with wetland plants and organisms, a sand filter and a constructed subsurface flow wetland together process the wastes naturally. A final stage is in a filter rack using a membrane filter and UV Disinfection lamps to produce clean reclaimed water. The reclaimed water is stored in an 8 m3 tank connected to a duplex pump station to supply water to the toilets and irrigation system.
